Wikimedia Deutschland e. V. is the German chapter of the Wikimedia movement that promotes projects to create and support free knowledge. Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, is the best known project among those. We support free and open access to education and knowledge. Our Berlin office is the workplace for around 60 employees.

Software development and engineering at Wikimedia Deutschland offers you the opportunity to work on code that is used by millions of people every day. We work on software that runs Wikipedia and its sister projects. Our flagship project is Wikidata, the free knowledge base that can be read and edited by humans and machines alike.

As a student intern at Wikimedia Deutschland you will gain insight into agile software development together with a group of awesome developers. You will be an important and integral part of the team and will be responsible for tasks that are vital for the success of the project. The position is available immediately at our Berlin office.

Working student Wikidata (f/m)

Your working hours will be 15 to 20 hours per week.

Your tasks:

  • supporting the Wikidata team in backend development,
  • testing and bug triage.

Your qualifications:

  • enrolment at a German university or college or qualified for working in Germany as an ERASMUS programme student,
  • knowledge in PHP and MySQL,
  • experience in MediaWiki development and MediaWiki extensions,
  • experience in the following fields are a plus:
    • working on Free Software projects,
    • HTML,
    • JavaScript.

Your personal profile:

  • Commitment: you are excited about moving things forward and motivated about your work.
  • Communication skills: your English is fluent, as it is the working language of the team. Knowledge of German is a plus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the capacity for teamwork.
