Selection Process

Applications submitted within the application period will be reviewed by the project team to ensure they meet the formal criteria. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

The selection of projects will be based on the selection criteria below and made by an interdisciplinary jury. Additionally to the criteria, it will be carefully taken into consideration to promote a variety of project formats and contents.

A total of ten projects will be selected.

  • Formal Criteria
    • Contribution to Free Knowledge: You agree to make your project results public and release them under a free license, making them accessible and usable by everyone.
    • Completeness: Applications must be complete in order to be eligible for selection. This means that the form must be completed in full. Charitable organizations must also enclose proof of charity status, their charter and proof of registration as a charitable organization with their application.
    • Submission Deadline: Applications must be submitted within the application period via the application form (from August, 15 until September 15, 2024, 12:59 PM).
    • Language Proficiency: You must have sufficient German and/or English language skills to participate in the program. If you understand the German or English version of our website and fill in your application in one of these two languages, we will assume that your language skills are sufficient for the communication with us. If needed, we offer translation services into German or English within the program.
    • Realistic Goals and Feasibility: The project must have realistic goals and be feasible to implement.
  • Content Criteria

The project meets at least three of the following criteria:

    • Situated Knowledge: You, or the majority of your group/non-profit organization, have a personal connection to the community/communities your project relates to.
    • Community-Oriented: You aim to share knowledge from one or more marginalized communities and utilize Free Knowledge in the interest of your community/communities.
    • Critical of Power: Your project questions existing power structures and/or addresses inequalities in social and political participation.
    • Intersectionality: You understand that different forms of discrimination are interconnected. This is reflected in your project—both in content and in the lived realities of the project team. Intersectionality here always refers to racism intertwined with other forms of discrimination.
    • Empowerment: Your project empowers one or more of your communities.
